The castle that you can see today was built in the middle of the 15 th century but its history begins long before that. According to local historian de Gaujal, the "castrum" of Coupiac was mentioned in charters as early as the 9 th century. From the 10 th to the 13 th centuries, the domain was jointly held by the Counts and the Bishop of Rodez.

The Château de Coupiac is one of a group of 23 castles in Aveyron which have joined together to provide a tourist itinerary as. Very lively on day we visited, 'open doors' meant we were able to visit the chateau, with no entrance fee. Good visit. Tourist information helpful and there was a plant market. Also enjoyed the church and chapels.
